"Let us help you face the challenges of a performing arts career. This profession requires not only your technical
best, but the energy, spontaneity and artistry to be believable. We've been on both sides of the casting process, and want to share with you what casting directors, agents, and the creative teams behind the shows expect you to know. Remember, there are literally thousands of people who want the same job and possess knowledge of over 100 years of  literature, shows, styles and personalities. Learn how (and how not) to set yourself apart from the rest! Be sure you know the lingo, rules and etiquette that apply from audition to rehearsal to Opening Night and beyond! "

Broadway veterans John Wilkerson and Margaret Shafer have over 50 years of theatrical experience between them.  After practicing their craft in New York City for many years, they are now based in Dallas, Texas. They have been fortunate to work with some of the finest performers, directors, choreographers, musical directors and technicians, including Tony, Emmy and Oscar-winners from the Broadway and British stages. They have worked at every level of performance from major concert halls to cruise ships, Broadway shows and Equity (union) national tours, Las Vegas and overseas. Members of  Actor's Equity Association, they have served as Deputies on various contracts.  Whether singing opera or country music, playing rednecks or royalty, they feel it is  imperative to learn and practice the highest standards of professionalism. They strive to pass on practical skills and information through private voice and acting instruction, master classes, and their acclaimed summer camps.                    Students appear in school, community, and professional theatre, film and television, not to mention prestigious university programs. Congratulations to all our students for their hard work and persistence!

Performances/Auditions

John is currently directing Beauty and the Beast at Artisan Center Theater, which runs May 25th through July 7. He also directed beautiful and critically acclaimed productions of My Fair Lady, Les Miserables, Jr., Phantom in the last year. Next up: West Side Story production camp, ages 15 through college. Go to artisanct.com for more information. For audition and performance info, click 'education', then 'summer camps.'

Thankful to work with
those that support our vision personally and professionally. Thanks to all involved including those that came specifically due to their love of John and his previous work at Artisan and to those who had not attended an Artisan show before, but came based on their expectation and enjoyment of previous experiences with John's shows elsewhere.

Our Retro Christmas Spectacular Dinner Show was a hit again! Continue or begin a cherished holiday tradition at the Plaza Theater on the Historic Downtown Carrollton Square. We love sharing this production with new patrons and with those who have made this event an annual  family outing that includes our salute to classic television Christmas specials and a catered dinner by the award-winning Nuevo Leon Restaurant (Texas Monthly, D Magazine and Dallas Observer.) This heartwarming, toe-tapping variety show is in the spirit of those wonderful Christmas shows of yesteryear. Think Bing Crosby, Andy Williams, Dean Martin, Carol Burnett, Perry Como. Click on "Christmas Spectacular" for more information!
